My loves! By now, most of us are in the full swing of things for the holidays. Here in Philly, we’ve already had two snowstorms which has my city looking like my very own Christmas village. I absolutely LOVE the way snow looks around this time of year. Ahhhh. Holiday parties are quickly approaching and family gatherings are coming together. Whether you have a company party, intimate event with friends, full out family affair, or like me ALL 3, the holidays are the perfect time to get all dolled up! Regardless of the event you’re going to these items are must haves to create that sultry holiday glam look we love to wear!
Happy Friday Queens! I’m so excited about today’s Fab Friday post! If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you’ll see I posted this new lip last weekend. I got inspired while surfing YouTube and decided to do a full beat. Le sigh, it’s been so long since I did a full face. I almost forgot how good it feels! I contoured (I never contour) and even broke out some lashes (I hate lashes) so you know it was real. Keeping on trend for fall and This Brown Queen, I decided to go with purple lips. I mean I DID say I was going to be the Queen of Purple this fall ;). I also decided to feature my new Maybelline Limited Edition Eyeshadow Quad in Autumn Dream.
A little more detailed than I usually do but I want my Queens to know how to do this look!
2. Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in Cappuccino
3. Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me in 30 for under eye
4. Set with L’Oreal True Match Pressed Powder in Nut Brown
5. Lightly brush all over face with dark brown in the Elf Turks & Caicos Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder
6. Wet N Wild Berry Shimmer Blush on apples
7. Used the darkest brown in my Elf Concealer Palette in Dark to contour
1. Prime with Elf Eyeshadow Primer
2. Apply NYX Concealer in a Jar in Tan all over lid
3. Using the Maybelline Autumn Dream quad apply the purple shade all over lid
4. Apply the green color in outer V and crease
5. Use a neutral color to transition. For me a use a warm brown from a BH Cosmetics palette
6. Milani Brow Kit in Medium Hi-Lite color to highlight
7. Using the dark blue, smudge along lower lash line 3/4 of the way
8. Use the bright color in tear duct and the remaining 1/4 lower lash line
1. Prime with a lip primer. I use my same Elf Eye Primer.
2. Line and fill in with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Purple Velvet.
3. Lightly blot Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Midnight Plum on top
Peace, Love, & Blessings
So, you may have read about my recent NYX discovery here, but if not definitely go check it out!
Since my initial excitement has now subsided and I’ve had time to actually breathe and use some products I come to you with this semi review of my NYX mini haul. Part 1.
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk. Ok. Beauty YouTube gurus. You sold me. And NYX you lived up to the hype. This jumbo pencil is amazing. I use it as a base for all of my bright looks. Helps the eyeshadow stay on forever and brings out the pigment tremendously! Now….if only I could figure out to sharpen it. Read somewhere that there are special sharpeners for NYX Jumbo Pencils?? Yea I’ll Google that and get back to ya’ll.
NYX Lip Pencil in Natural. I love this Lip Pencil. It’s so creamy and glides on easily. I use it for my no make up days. Or my no make up make up days. Just adds the right amount of color to my lips to have them looking perfect. I use alone, under a gloss, a liner, or under a nude color lipstick. Loves it!
NYX Concealer Jar. Thumbs DOWNNN. For me, this just does not work. It looks patchy/ashy. No matter how I apply it. Finger tips, dabbing, concealer brush. Nothing. Yucksss. I won’t give up on it though. Maybe an eye primer of sorts? We’ll see.
NYX Round Lipstick in Peach Bellini. Such a disappointment. Because the color is GAWJUS just GAWJUS. But the lipstick is a no go. It smells strange, glides on streaky, and just doesn’t look nice. So sad.

So maybe this post is premature because I’ve never tried any of NYX’s products, but if you’ve watched any of the beauty Youtube guru’s you’ve heard of NYX. From what I’ve learned this is an affordable, very popular, quality cosmetic line that rivals some top brands. Yes. Even our beloved M.A.C. Again, Queens this is hearsay because I’ve never tried NYX myself. Why not? One of the downfalls of NYX is that it is primarily based online. Store presence has been scarce from what I’ve seen and researched. I know the Ulta in my city carries NYX but that’s about a good 20 minute ride for me and I just don’t always have time for that. This is why I’m a Target and Walgreens junkie! They are so conveniently located ;). I’ve been anxious to get my hands on some NYX products since I first started immersing myself in the beauty world. There’s just something about buying cosmetics that I have NO experience with online that leaves me wary. Even though the Youtube guru’s swear by it…I’ve been holding off, opting to order palettes and such for my freelance work online instead.
HOWEVER, yesterday evening while browsing my local beauty store for natural hair products I stumbled across a NYX display…I got closer. NYX? Like NYX NYX? You know because everyone knows if you say something twice you’re for real! I wanted to go HAM! But I’m on a beauty budget :(. BOOOO I know. But Queens, for real, I have a problem. So I regained my composure…May I add that I only stopped in the store to see what natural hair products they carried while my oldest son was in Karate class. So I was wearing baby Joey, while Shawn and I walked down to the store. Shawn thought he was a Karate kid from the few minutes he watched his brother’s class so he was PUMPED and baby was irritable because I woke him up from his nap to strap him on me…then I had the nerve to lose it when I seen the NYX display…prolonging this crazy scene because I pulled out my phone and started researching “Best NYX products”. *Le sigh* I love being a mom :). Moving along, I regained my composure and told myself I’d purchase 3 items…of course I bought 6 butttt who’s counting?
Here’s my mini haul:
1. The NYX round lipstick in Peach Bellini. 2. Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean. 3. Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. 4. Lip Liner Pencil in Natural. 5. Eyeliner in LCL 105 6. Concealer jar in Tan.
I’ve already tried a few of these out to see how they work. I won’t say anything yet until I do an actual look. I am TOO excited!
Oh how I love make up…
