Hey beauties! Happy Friday! It’s the first weekend of Fall and I’ve been having all pumpkin spice everything for the past couple of weeks so I’m more than ready. I like to be prepared for these sort of things ;). Last weekend was super busy for me attending work events in the city and tending to the crew. A mothers job is nevaaa done. This weekend I intend to chill and catch up on blog things. Leaving you all with a few good links.
I have a confession to make. I got married…and I didn’t wear white. There it is! Two years ago, this younger (and less financially equipped lol) girl eloped with a very small intimate ceremony on a snowy morning in February…in a red dress. And I wouldn’t change it for the world! But let’s be honest, every girl wants a dream wedding so we’ve always planned that on our 10 year anniversary we would renew our vows and plan the wedding of my dreams. For all things wedding, starting out with Lover.ly is a must. It’s the one stop shop for brides with everything from wedding dresses, accessories, and even makeup! So when I got the chance to plan my dream day with Lover.ly, I was so excited to bring some of my visions to the blog.
Can’t believe it’s been a year already. It seems like only last week I was posting about turning 26 and yet here I am at 27. This year has seriously flown by. When you’re caught up in the day to day it’s easy to lose sight of the progress, the journey. But when I really think about it…I’ve accomplished so much during my 26th year of life. It feels good and a little surreal that I’m really in my late twenties. For real this time, like I can’t even pretend anymore.
TGIF. For real. The first week back after a holiday is always sooo long. I’m glad the weekend is here. Not that I’ll be doing much relaxing but a girl can dream. This week was definitely an inspiration when it comes to blogging. I found some awesome new blogs, learned a lot, and definitely refocused after listening to a super motivating podcast by Myleik. You should need to check it out. We have the same mantra. Keep Going. It’s on my vision board and errthing. Here are some more links I’m loving this week.
Choosing the right bathing suit is always like mission impossible for me. I don’t do the bikini thing, y’all already know. So I’m forever searching for the perfect high waist or chic one piece. I’m headed to the beach in a couple weeks so obviously finding the right bathing suit is all I’ve been thinking about. Here are a few that have caught my eye and are exactly what I’m looking for.
If you’ve been following the blog for some time you may have come across my Love Yourself Completely post. I’ve posted it twice here and both times I was met with such love and encouragement from Queens (here and on my social media accounts) about the message. In that post I talk about loving yourself completely and embracing everything about you. Total self acceptance. “Flaws” and all. I also talked about the things I experienced in my past that I learned to embrace and accept about myself. That transparency with you all was major for me. I’ve never really spoke out on something so personal. Writing about beauty is easy. It comes naturally to me and it’s something I’m passionate about. But what’s not so easy is being transparent and I was really happy to see such positive feedback.
I feel like I haven’t done a favorites post in so long. Every time I try to get back on board…I fail *Kanye shrug*. But let us not dwell on the past and instead focus on how awesome is it that I’m doing a monthly favorites on the last day of the actual month! Do you know how major that is?! Of course, because it’s me, most (read all) of my favorites are beauty things. That’s just the kinda girl I am <3.
Loves! I’ve been meaning to write this post for so long. Just about my thoughts, the blog, and other randomness that is THIS brown queen. I know I wrote a little while back about how I was missing but I promised I’d be back and better, but then nothing. Lol please forgive me loves. Don’t charge it to my heart! I guess I’ve just been feeling different about what’s really important here. I love blogging about my beauty obsessions and love for all things pretty. Seriously, it is like the ultimate combination of everything I love to do. I think in this mainstream blogging thing and the pursuit of just trying to keep up it’s easy to lose yourself and the focus of the goal.
A large part of This Brown Queen is the support and empowerment of brown girls. Since starting the blog I’m so happy to have really been able to make some awesome connections and meet so many inspiring women both here in Philly, around the country, and online. Blogging perks at it’s finest. Most recently I’ve been able to connect with a fellow Philly girl who just achieved the esteem honor of being named the African American Chamber of Commerce Young Professional of the Year! Danielle is the CEO of Affairs of Isis and one of the hardest working girls I know! Check out the this awesome recap of the event honoring Ms. Jeter.
I hope all the mommies enjoyed their special day! For me, I really didn’t want for much. Just a relaxed day, some food, and maybe a new bag. Thankfully I got all 3!
