FOTD: FAIL!

One thing I’ve noticed since blogging about beauty and all things Queen related is, it’s easy to find endless posts, reviews, &  tutorials etc of things going right. But is that really life? That’s not how things are on an everyday basis! With life comes mistakes, mix ups, and failures. I know not of one road to success that is exempt of failure. And that’s what THIS BROWN QUEEN is about. I ain’t no expert! I’m living life in all its glory. The good, bad, and ugly.  So that’s why I bring this post to you. I attempted. I failed. And I want to let YOU know what happened. So you don’t make my mistake. Pictures included and all for my visual Queens. You know, because sometimes words just aren’t enough ;).

Here I attempted another look from my Victoria’s Secret SuperModel On the Go kit eyeshadow palette. So what happened?

FOUNDATION: As a darker woman it is extremely difficult to find foundations in my shade. The darkest color is either too light or too dark. And as you know I’m a budget queen so always having to buy two of the same foundations to mix the perfect shade isn’t always a feasible option. Maybelline’s FIT ME foundations have an array of shades that allowed me to find one that matched me well. The FIT ME line contains SPF 18, however, and I’ve heard from many beauty bloggers that foundations with SPF tend to give you a ghostly look in pictures. I’ve never experienced this. I don’t know how or why but I never did. Until now. Without flash and in natural settings this foundation “fit me” perfectly. BUT see here in this picture at night with flash…NO GOOD. It is just off. I don’t like it.  *Note: it IS starting to get warmer and I have another foundation I use for summer so this could have some impact on how it “fits me” unfortunately this is the darkest shade available in this foundation :(* I use this  90% of the time and you can see it in other posts I have made like this one and this one. It is a great product, however I would not recommend any foundation with SPF if you are going anywhere, at night, where pictures will be taken.

CONTOUR: This brown queens weakness. Clearly. Contour? Where? Exactly 😉

EYES: I do love the palette. I simply just don’t like how I blended the colors together. I think the highlight was too bright and I just think the colors didn’t blend as I thought they would. No worries because I never do anything once and call it a day. I’ll be doing this look again and posting my update. Because that’s what it’s all about. If at first you don’t succeed right? It might not always work the first time around. And that’s okay!

And because with every failure comes a lesson here’s one for you: NYX fuschia lip pencil all over lip, topped with Maybelline Brazen Berry…I AM IN LOVE with this lip color. Not something I’d wear everyday but just so damn pretty. See! It wasn’t a TOTAL failure ;).

Update will be posted THIS WEEK!

Peace, Love, & Blessings

Date Night: Using What I Have

So a couple weeks ago, while my Mr. was out with his friends he stopped in Victoria’s Secret…why? I have no idea. Because he knows that THIS brown queen does not spend that kind of money on panties and bras…..ok….that’s not ENTIRELY true. I have like 4 bras from Vickie’s, but I had two kids so I have an excuse. I needed them ;). Anyway, he stopped in there an picked me up this Victoria’s Secret Super Model on the Go Makeup Kit. Now, I’ve never bought or used ANY makeup from Victoria’s Secret. But my King was just sooo excited about this gift for me I decided that I was going to do a look with this kit. And it was going to be AWESOME. And it was. Yes, I rocked that Super Model on the Go Makeup Kit and I can’t wait to do more looks with this. It’s actually a very versatile kit and I’m all for kits to be honest. Here’s my date night look. Excuse my hair and lack of proper clothing ;). Hope you like it as much as I did ;-*

All eyeshadows used were in the kit. I used NYX Jumbo Pencil in milk as the base. Mascaras are Elf Lengthing and Volumizing Mascara in Black and Maybelline Great Lash in Very Black. Maybelline Define-A-Line in Black Eyeliner.  Elf Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. On the lips Maybelline ON FIRE RED lipstick. One of my favorite reds!

Fabulous Saturday? My Favorite Look

So yes Queens, I know it’s supposed to be Fabulous Fridays but I was crazy busy yesterday and did not have the time to post. So for this week only it’s Fabulous Saturday and please don’t be too upset 😉

For this week I decided to show you my favorite look. I do this look most weekends when I’m out and about with the kids. It’s subtle but it’s buildable and  it’s a smokey eye which I absolutely love love love. This look gives me that “made up” look without doing too much. And it’s super duper easy! And ya’ll know I love easy! So here’s my favorite look. Two times for you because it’s just that awesome ;).

Before I list the products I used I wanted to focus quickly on the Wet N Wild color icon eyeshadow trio palettes. These little palettes are AMAZING. For Queens with little make up experience to pros these pallets are super pigmented and easy to use! And you can multitask and what Queen doesn’t like multitasking? 3 colors blended seamlessly in one pallet with easy instructions of which color goes where (which you don’t have to follow by the way). What more do you need?!? AND THEY ARE CHEAP. That is all.

Products I used:

*Face: Maybelline FIT Foundation, L’oreal True Match Pressed Powder, Wet N Wild Color Icon blush
*Eyes: Elf Eye Primer, Wet N Wild Color Icon eyeshadow trio (used all 3 colors exactly how instructed), Maybelline Define-A-Line eyeliner, Elf Lengthening & Volumizing mascara
*Lips: First pic Rimmel London Long Lasting Lipstick By Kate in Rosetto and I bet you can’t guess the second one….Maybelline Vivid Brazen Berry…you guys don’t know me at all lol!

Saturday Face!

Yesterday was the actual first day it felt like “Spring” in my neck of the woods so I was excited to get outside! I only had my youngest prince for the day so I could actually take my time and do my make up righhttt. Keeping up with the latest Spring Beauty Trend I kept my eyes neutral, painted those brows on, and used my ab-so-lute FAVORITE lipstick Brazen Berry. If you Queens have a little extra time on your hands and you want to do a little more than your daily look this is perfect! You wanna see it? Here’s the look!(#NoFilter because that’s what all the cool kids say on Instagram)

Fabulous Fridays: Berry Pink!

Check the tagline. I mean I DID say I’m just brown queen…that’s FABULOUS. LOL! No seriously, one thing that has always been a constant struggle is remembering to take care of ME! I always found myself last (if that) on my list of things that needed to be taken care. Come on queens. You know what I’m talking about. Get the kids ready, do homework, start dinner, do laundry, go to work, pay bills, make time for hubby. We are queens after all. We have a kingdom to run! But how can I claim I’m a Queen walking around looking like a slug. After my mother staged a very dramatic “intervention” of sorts (Gosh I love that woman), I realized yes, I am important and I need to take care of ME. You know the saying goes, happy wife, happy life. All too true.

So with this in mind I decided to come up with a segment Fabulous Fridays! Where I post about how to get your fab on. Whether that’s making yourself over, beauty tips, faces of the day, outfits, whatever. Just be FABULOUS.

So that brings me to my FOTD. Springtime edition. Using my favorite color pink (who doesn’t love pink?!) and purple (the color of royalty, we’re queens afterall). Enjoy this BERRY PINK FOTD!

Products I used:

*Eyeshadows: Wet N Wild mini pallets, Revlon Cream shadow pallet, Victoria’s Secret Super Model on the Go travel kit

*Liners, Primers & Mascaras: Elf Primer, Maybelline Purple eyeliner, Elf liquid eyeliner, Maybelline Great Lash mascara, Elf Volumizing & Lengthening mascara

*Lips: Nivea lip butter, Maybelliene Vivids Brazen Berry

*Cheeks: Maybelliene Cream Blush

PS. My son walked in here while I was creating this and said “Is that you? You look so cute!” Compliments from my 1st prince. YES.
