Fabulous Friday | Autumn Dreaming

Happy Friday Queens! I’m so excited about today’s Fab Friday post! If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you’ll see I posted this new lip last weekend. I got inspired while surfing YouTube and decided to do a full beat. Le sigh, it’s been so long since I did a full face. I almost forgot how good it feels! I contoured (I never contour) and even broke out some lashes (I hate lashes) so you know it was real. Keeping on trend for fall and This Brown Queen, I decided to go with purple lips. I mean I DID say I was going to be the Queen of Purple this fall ;). I also decided to feature my new Maybelline Limited Edition Eyeshadow Quad in Autumn Dream.

20130929-161133.jpgA little more detailed than I usually do but I want my Queens to know how to do this look!

4. Set with L’Oreal True Match Pressed Powder in Nut Brown
5. Lightly brush all over face with dark brown in the Elf Turks & Caicos Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder
6. Wet N Wild Berry Shimmer Blush on apples
7. Used the darkest brown in my Elf Concealer Palette in Dark to contour

Summer Skin Care!

sun1

If you haven’t noticed…I’m here to let you know Summer has arrived and it is not playing! At all. While I know we are all excited to wear sundresses, bathing suits, booty shorts and whatever else, I must remind ya’ll to be safe! This means protecting your skin during these hot, sunny, summer days. Rest assured we can keep it cute and safe! Here’s how!

The easiest way to make sure you’re protecting your skin is to invest in some skincare products that contain SPF. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. You’ll notice many lotions, skin creams, bb creams, and foundations contain SPF. Which is great. But you need to be informed about what the numbers mean and what you need for your skin. Basically the numbers are based on a theoretical time frame of how long you would be able to be in the sun without causing damage to your skin. So a product containing SPF 20 would mean you’d be able to stay in the sun 20 times longer than you could have without protection. This is the most basic explanation of the number.

There are many factors that influence the effect of the sunscreen that you are using such as: family history, medical state, activities, etc, but for most people SPF 15 is sufficient. To get the most effective use of your sunscreen make sure to apply correctly and reapply frequently. Also, try to find products that protect against both UVB and UVA rays.

I’m currently using L’Oreal Sublime Sun Sheer Protectant Oil Spray SPF 30 for my body and Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin SPF 35 for my face. DON’T FORGET THE BABIES! I use Coppertone Water Babies Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 for all my kids.

June Beauty List

What’s on my June Beauty Shopping List? The real question is what’s not?! As ya’ll know I do everything on a budget. I love Love LOVE beauty buys but EVERY THING IN MODERATION QUEENS! So, I created this  must have list that includes some key things I’ll be getting for the month of June. Broken down into 3 categories: hair, makeup, and skin.

1. L’Oreal EverCurl Hyracharge Leave In Cream, Scuplt and Hold Cream, Hydracharge Conditioner ~ You know by now that I’m on this natural hair journey and I’m still in the phase where I’m just trying to figure out what works. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this line and I’m excited to try these!

2. L’Oreal Studio Secrets No. 1 Magic Perfecting Base ~ Looking for a drugstore primer. Tried NYC and didn’t notice a difference. To be honest…I was kinda scared to use it. I’m all about a bargain but it was SUPER cheap. Made me nervous. Don’t judge me.

3. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Tenacious Teal & Painted Purple ~ Have you seen these colors? Matter fact have you seen the line in general? Need I say more?

4. Maybelline ColorShow Nail Lacquer in Chiffon Chic & Fierce N Tangy ~ I’m obsessed with the Colorshow nail polish line. Absolutely obsessed. I know everyone raves over our beloved Essie…but do I really need to reiterate that I’m a budget queen?

6. Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in Cappuccino ~ My favorite YouTube beauty guru Makeupdoll included this in her top 5 drugstore foundations. You don’t gotta say much more to me!

7. L’Oreal Sublime Sun Sheer Protect Sunscreen Oil Spray ~ It’s summertime! I don’t know about ya’ll but THIS family lives at the beach. It’s fun. It’s close. It’s FREE. So sunscreen is a must have. Came across this in my June Vogue issue so I’m giving it a shot.

8. Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar ~ I used to LOVE this cleansing bar. I honestly don’t know why I stopped using it but I’ve been noticing my complexion is changing and I’m hoping this can get me back!

9. Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch & Quenched ~ I love the baby lips line. I’ve tried all the rest except these two.

That’s my list and I’m sticking to it!

What’s on your June Beauty List? What are your summer must have beauty items?

Peace, Love, & Blessings,

L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream Review

67dc6970e8094bd55c3cca553e9689b1_ra,w403,h403_pa,w403,h403

On my search to find the best drugstore BB cream, I decided next up was the L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream. I am a fan of their TrueMatch Foundation and I was expecting to receive good results with their new BB cream.

What L’Oreal Says:

4 Beautifying Actions in 1.Hydrates, Primes, Perfects, Corrects.Flawless bare skin finish.

$10.95

Meet the Magic all-in-one skin BB cream, with Beautifying Beads; encapsulated pigments infused in an ultra-light lotion with antioxidants Vitamins C&E. This mullti-tasking skin beautifier delivers 4 beautifying actions in 1: hydrates, corrects, evens and perfects. Instantly transforms to your perfect shade for a flawless, bare skin finish. Over time, more beautiful skin.
What This Brown Queen Says: I’m sad to say…that I don’t have much to say on this product. I was immediately turned off by this:
photo (1)
It’s an off-white color. I was horrified. I even thought I got the wrong BB Cream. Quick Google image search (thank you Google greatness) and I realized, NOPE! Right product. HOW in the world did I miss that it was not tinted. I lost all hope in the BB Cream at that moment. I tried to apply it anyway when I was introduced to the gritty texture of the BB Cream. Yea, those “beautifying beads” L’Oreal mentioned…I’m not so much a fan of them being in my BB Cream. I’m sure that other people may not have a problem or may even like the texture. But THIS brown queen does not. Still I continued. Because I’m a beauty blogger. That’s what I do. And I rubbed it in. And applied some more. And no bueno. This is just too light for my complexion. See here as I swatched on my skin and blended best I could:
photo
What it does is leaves behind what on DARK skin looks ashy. Because of the ashy appearance your skin looks dry. Whether it hydrates or not, I can’t call it. For dark skin it doesn’t even or perfect. No flawless, bare skin, finish over here. At Target it cost me $7.99.
So there it is in a nutshell. I’d love to hear the opinions of lighter complexion queens! Have you tried the L’Oreal BB Cream? What do you think?
